12 for ’26: Loveless Family for April – Ebenezer Loveless Timeline

For the month of April, it’s time to focus on another surname. Ebenezer Loveless, the son of Jesse Loveless and Elizabeth Nixon, was born 8 February 1851 in Georgia and died on 27 January 1929 in Rotan County, Texas. He had two wives: Eliza A. Rodgers and Melissa M. (Settle) Blount. He lived in Georgia, Arkansas, and Texas. Besides farming, he was also a Baptist minister. He and Eliza had eleven children. Below is a timeline just dealing with documents I have already found.

Timeline

1851. February 8. Ebenezer was born, likely in Cass County, Georgia, where his parents lived in 1850.
He was the youngest child of ten.[1]

1860. He was the youngest at age 9 in Jesse Loveless household in Cass County, Georgia.[2] Cass County was renamed to Bartow County in 1861.

1861. His father purchased land in Chattooga County and they likely moved.[3]

1870. He is still in the household his of father, Jesse, and mother, Elizabeth. He was 19. His brother, Jesse M, 22, and sister, Sophrona Sims, 38, along with her children, were also in the household. He was a farmer.[4]

1871. March 18-19. Ebby Loveless obtained a license to marry E. A. Rodgers. On 19 March, W.T. Russell, a minister of the gospel, married them in Chattooga County.[5]

1871-1872. Sometime during these years, the family moved to Faulkner County, Arkansas.

1872. A daughter, Minnie Loveless, was born and died. She is buried in Springhill Cemetery, Springhill, Faulkner County, Arkansas. Her tombstone reads “Emma & Minnie/daughters of Rev. & Mrs. EB Loveless.[6]

Ebenezer’s was valued at $80 while Rebecca’s was valued at $72. Also in the section was J. Loveless, who may have been Ebenezer’s father, Jesse or his brother Jesse M. He had the southeast quarter with 160 acres.[8] When did he buy this land?

He was also listed under the personal property tax list below Elizabeth Loveless and J.M. Loveless. He paid a poll tax, had 1 horse valued at $75, and 3 cattle valued at $21.[9]

1874. Daughter Emma Loveless was born and died. She is buried in Springhill Cemetery, Springhill, Faulkner County, Arkansas. Her tombstone reads “Emma & Minnie/daughters of Rev. & Mrs. EB Loveless.”[10]
