52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks (2020) – Week 22: Uncertain—What Was the Maiden Name of Rebecca Ro(d)gers?

Image
This is my third year working on this year-long prompt, hosted by Amy Johnson Crow. I will write each week in one of my two blogs, either Mam-ma’s Southern Family or at My Trails Into the Past. I have enjoyed writing about my children’s ancestors in new and exciting ways. For the theme of “uncertain,” I decided to find a female with no maiden name, or at least an uncertain maiden name. This blog post will review what I know about Rebecca, wife of David Ro(d)gers and mother of Eliza Ro(d)gers, who married Ebenezer Loveless in 1871. Through the process, I will be creating a plan for future research. I will start with what I know about her daughter, Eliza. I am also going to standardize the spelling of the surname to RODGERS for simplicity. Chattooga County, Georgia I first wrote about Eliza in this blog post . At the time I was trying to verify her parents’ names. Eliza Rodgers was born May 1854 in South Carolina. [1] She first appeared in the 1860 population census in ...

52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks – Week 33: Family Legends

Image
I am working on this year-long prompt, hosted by Amy Johnson Crow . I will write each week in one of my two blogs, either Mam-ma’s Southern Family or at My Trails Into the Past . I’m looking forward to writing about my children’s ancestors in new and exciting ways. When I first started researching my family I was told about all kinds of possible relatives We’re related to Will Rogers. We’re related to the Coors family We have Native American roots, possibly Cherokee It’s funny, that all of these “legends” are on my maternal grandmother’s family. As I worked through the research, one generation at a time, I have disproved these legends. Rogers Angle. We do have Rodger/Roger ancestors. Eliza A. Rodgers married Ebenezer Loveless on 19 March 1871 in Chattooga County, Georgia. They later moved to Faulkner County, Arkansas. Eliza’s parents might be David Rodgers and Rebecca Waddell. They might have had nine children, all born in South Carolina. I suppose it is still poss...

Road Trip to Arkansas

Image
I'm planning a road trip to Arkansas, specifically Faulkner County and Little Rock, to do some genealogy research on my grandmother's Loveless line. Places I plan to visit: Ouachita Baptist University, Special Collections, in the Riley-Hickingbotham Library . Here I hope to learn more about my great-great-grandfather, Ebenezer Loveless, who was a Baptist minister. They're open 8 to 5 and an archivist will be there to help me. University of Central Arkansas where the Faulkner County Historical Society has their holdings. Not only did the Loveless family move to Arkansas from Georgia, but so did the Rodgers and Nixon families. Hendrix College has a genealogy library and the Faulkner County Library has a genealogy section. T he Faulkner County Museum will also be a great place to stop to learn about local history. This museum is open Monday through Thursday from 9 to 4. I contacted the director of the museum and she plans to be there the day I arrive to help m...

I saw a posting on Google+ from my friend Sheri Fenley where she posted a 6 generation maternal line and she said she got the idea from Lorine McGinnis at the Olive Tree Genealogy Blog,  6 generations of her maternal line . 52 Ancestors: Week 2 - Eliza A. Rogers (1854-1907)

Amy Johnson Crow of  No Story Too Small  has created a new theme called  52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks . I think it’s a great way to write about one person. This will help me see what I have and what I’m missing for additional research. I decided for week 2 to write about Eliza A. Rogers, my gg-grandmother. For my first assignment in ProGen21, we had to create a research plan and I had created one for her. When I go to Salt Lake City later this month for a week of research at the Family History Library, I plan to do some of the proposed research. Research Plan for Eliza A. Rogers Objective : Who were the parents of Eliza A. Rogers (wife of Ebenezer Loveless)?                                                    ...

Image
This is a blogging theme for the month of March which is Women's History Month. I'm a bit behind but do want to participate in the daily blogging posts. These 31 posts will be posted between my two blogs " My Trails Into the Past " and " Mam-ma's Southern Family ." March 20 — Is there a female ancestor who is your brick wall? Why? List possible sources for finding more information. One of my brick wall female ancestor is Eliza A. I have not worked on this line in ages.  Just reviewing this now I see some things I should do: Find out when death certificates became mandatory in Arkansas and try to obtain one for her. Fearless Females - Day 1

This is a blogging theme for the month of March which is Women's History Month.  I'm a bit behind but do want to participate in the daily blogging posts. Day 1:  Do you have a favorite female ancestor? One you are drawn to or want to learn more about? Write down some key facts you have already learned or what you would like to learn and outline your goals and potential sources you plan to check. I would like to know more about my grandmother's mother, Lela Ann (Loveless) Lancaster.  She was born 2 April 1895 in Conway, Faulkner Co, Arkansas to Ebenezer Loveless & Eliza A Rogers.  She married George Warren Lancaster 15 Dec 1912 in Stephenville, Erath Co, Texas.  They had four children; my grandmother was the oldest. My grandmother told me her mother was ill most of my grandmother's young life and that my grandmother had extra chores around the house and she took care of her brothers.  What was wrong with Lela Ann?  She did live until she was 5...
