James Madison Coor Probate
J. M. Coor, Probate #241, Erath Co, Texas Book G, p 458, FHL film 1428413 |
I don't know when he came with his family to Texas. His wife, Melissa Ann Welch, died 20 Sep 1876 in Coor Springs, Mississippi, leaving him nine children to raise alone. He and his family are in Copiah County, Mississippi for the 1880 census. He purchased land in Erath County, Texas on 6 Mar 1885. I am not sure if this is the first purchase. I need to make a spreadsheet of all of the land purchases to sort them out.
By 1890, however, most of his children have married and two are left as minors: my great-great grandmother Martha J. Coor, better known as Doll (even in the probate record), and D.K. Coor.
As I work my way through these probate records and land records, I will write more about this Coor family.
